Dear Members

2026 got off to a good start, despite the endless rain, snow, ice and mud, and the occasional ray of sunshine, with ourleaders managing to keep us walking.  We are grateful for the time and effort leaders make to provide a varied walks schedule.But we need more!  Can you step up and share the load?  You don’t need to use a compass, and we can provide routes and a mentor.  The online training takes a couple of hours and is informative.  Speak to one of the committee if you can help.

What a great night we had at the Princess Royal, Runfold. The hotel served up a fabulous meal, Paul provided a stimulating quiz and organised music,with guests entertained with a range of dancing styles…… Our previous Chair,Gordon, was given a surprise – a photo board with messages from members and a poem from Bev, thanking him for his contribution over the last four years. He’s organised eight short break getaways and has committed to two more – one in March to Royal Tunbridge Wells, and one in the Autumn yet to be planned.

Alexis keeps us motivated with exciting holidays.  Some are off to Malta and Gozo in May, St Ives in September, and in 2027 Costa Rica.  There are spaces for Malta and Gozo, so please ask for details if interested. Since 30 November thecommittee includes Hazel, Alexis, Paul, Ian, Sean, Sally.  We’re helped by others including Alan as the Footpath Maintenance Coordinator - look out for dates for 2026 on the website.  Kevin Ha is assisting Alexis with Membership to keep our database current.  Let us know if you’re not getting emails so we can sort this for you.

Neil has done a sterling job revamping our website assisted by Paul, Kevin Ha and Kevin Hu, Sandra, Hazel, Veronica.Thanks also to Veronica for writing an article about the Warwick trip for S E Walker, and those who regularly post photos and write-ups on Facebook including Bev and Kate.

Surrey Heath is one of 17 Groups that report through to Surrey Area.  They oversee our budget, and areworking with Ramblers UK over potential changes to governance and Charity Law accounting rules. So what’s coming up?  Apart from local routes, we’ve got ideas for London walksincluding visiting Battersea Power Station and Eel Pie Island.  On the social side, we’re considering another Thames River boat trip as this has proved very popular, along with a coach trip to the south coast.The London Blind Walkers is being hosted in September.
