Dear Members
Welcome to our latest newsletter, full of the joys of Spring now the sunshine has arrived. We’ve stomped the Nine Mile Ride, found Buster’s memorial at Dorney Lake, listened to skylarks in Greywell, discovered historic Aldershot, spotted stags at Alice Holt, sauntered along Dogsmerfield’s canal, admired Farnham’s flowers, climbed Hascombe Hill, wandered amongst golden daffodils in Worplesdon, and explored Elvetham. And there was the amazing trip to Kent. Blessed with good weather, 28 members enjoyed Sissinghurst and Cranbrook, Ashdown Forest, the Buckhurst Estate, Scotney Castle, and Lamberhurst. Thanks to everyone for making it such a success, especially the walk leaders and Gordon.
Following our call for help, we’ve now got Jette Roberts, Viki Hudson and Tanya Willson training as new walk leaders. Thanks ladies, now what about the men? Mentoring is available, and there’s a bank of existing walk routes ready for those who need one. If every leader commits to at least three walks per year, the schedule is filled so please step up if you can.
The trips to Malta & Gozo and St Ives are full and a cancellation means there is a room available on the Costa Rica trip in February, so please contact Alexis if interested on
A reminder to check our website regularly as this is now the main source of information on walks, socials, holidays and news. The link to our website is: https://surreyheathramblers.org.uk Due to cost, we are gradually withdrawing use of MeetUp and this will cease completely in August.
For those with furry friends, have a look at the information on the website under Walking with Dogs ( link). The description will explain whether they need to be on leads. Thank you for your cooperation and support meaning everyone can enjoy the walks.
Now the weather is better, our walks schedule is filling up with local and trips further away including to the coast and to Eel Pie Island on the Thames. With the ongoing fuel issues, please car-share wherever you can. The Hamble bus trip was popular last summer and we’re planning to run this again. But we need people to organise this and socials so please get in touch if you can help out and spread the load. Enjoy the good weather …..as long as it lasts!
