Footpath Inspection

Surrey Heath Ramblers (SHR) undertake an area wide Rights of Way (RoW) inspection twice per year under the BVPI Scheme (Best Value Performance Indicators).

A randomly selected set of footpaths and bridleways are inspected against 30 criteria reflecting the condition covering such items as state of the path, signage, vegetation encroachment, condition of stiles/kissing gates, bridges etc. Typically up to 20 paths from 200 metres to 2km in length are selected for inspection each time. The results from Ramblers across Surrey are collated and an overall result is published.

Typically between 75% and 85% of all paths are considered in good condition. Any remedial work is recorded onto Surrey CAMS (Countryside Access Management System) for future mediation work
